Shearing: The Proven
Technology for Cold Cutting Steel

The Shear Is Still the Fastest, Most Economical Way to Cut Sheet Metal

Shearing is the most established industrial method for cold cutting steel. High-volume production is increasingly moving to more flexible technologies like fiber laser and plasma cutting, but the shear remains the fastest and most economical way to cut sheet metal, and the ideal complement to any fab shop. With the right blades and machine design, cutting capacities up to 1.97" (50 mm) are possible.

Rugged and Reliable for Heavy Fabrication

Warcom hydraulic shears stand out for their rugged construction and their cutting accuracy and repeatability. All machining is done in-house on state-of-the-art boring mills, and every shear can be sized and equipped with a wide range of options to fit your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is shearing?

Shearing is a cold cutting process for sheet metal in which two blades, one fixed and one moving, separate the material by shear force without applying heat. It creates no heat-affected zone and is especially efficient for fast, economical straight cuts on sheet and plate.

What thickness can MAXIMA cut?

MAXIMA can be configured for nominal capacities from 0.16" to 1.02" (4–26 mm), depending on machine configuration and material. With dedicated blades and machine sizing, Warcom can also engineer the shear for thicker material based on your specific requirements.

What are the hydraulic rake angle and blade gap adjustments for?

Rake angle and blade gap affect cut quality, part distortion and blade wear. On MAXIMA, both are adjusted hydraulically with a selector based on material and thickness, so operators can switch between jobs quickly without shims or tools.

Are MAXIMA shears CNC-controlled?

MAXIMA comes standard with a single-axis control for the backgauge, with a simple, intuitive interface. CNC controls with up to four axes and a touchscreen are available on request, especially for shears integrated into automated production lines.
